What the federal file says about anesthesiologists
45,261 anesthesiologists are enrolled in Medicare in the CMS file dated Aug 18, 2026, counted once each by NPI. The most are in California (5,745), New York (3,725) and Texas (3,702). 29% are women, and the median year of medical school graduation is 2006. 3% report telehealth services.
The AAMC count is lower: it counts only physicians working more than 20 hours a week who are not retired or in training. LakeB2B and InfoGlobalData print US counts above both. Ask each seller what one row is before you pay: a physician, a contact at a practice, or an address.

Renting the specialty society's list
The American Society of Anesthesiologists rents member names and addresses at a $60 set-up fee plus $175 per 1,000, and sends email itself at $300 plus $300 per 1,000 (rates from its 2020 order forms, still linked from its rental page); the email list is never handed over. Rentals are limited to CME and meeting notices from tax-exempt educational institutions, subspecialty societies and ASA component societies, so a device or drug promotion doesn't qualify. How to choose an anesthesiologist list
Know the number: the CMS file lists 45,261 anesthesiologists enrolled in Medicare, more than the 43,499 active anesthesiologists the AAMC counted, partly because the AAMC leaves out physicians working 20 hours a week or less. A seller's US count far above both needs an explanation: ask whether it includes nurse anesthetists, residents or practice staff.
If you sell devices or drugs, the ASA's list is out: it rents only for CME and meeting notices from educational institutions and societies. That leaves list houses and files built from the federal data.
